“Does South Carolina have a Controlled Substance Registration?”

All South Carolina resident and non-resident pharmacies, manufacturers and distributors who dispense controlled substances into the state of South Carolina, must obtain a South Carolina Controlled Substances Registration by October 31, 2014.

S.C. Code Ann. Section 44-53-290(a) states “Every Person who manufacturers, distributes, prescribes, or dispenses any controlled substance or who proposes to engage in the manufacture, distribution or dispensing of any controlled substance shall obtain a registration issued by the Department in accordance with its rules and regulations.”

The initial registration fee is $125 for pharmacies, $650 for manufacturers, and $550 for distributors. A renewal is required annually. Failure to obtain the registration by 12/31/2014 may result in enforcement action by the Bureau of Drug Control.
